Moving to Chanhassen

You are about to experience one of the most popular cities in central Minnesota which was voted as one of the best places to live by Money Magazine in 2009. While Chanhassen is a small community with a population of about 24,000 residents, it is located only about 15 miles southwest of Minneapolis along State Highway 5. Chanhassen schools are mainly part of the Eastern Carver County School District 112. There are eight schools in this district that serves ages kindergarten through high school. Those schools include the Kindergarten Center, Chanhassen Elementary School for ages K-5, Bluff Creek Elementary School for grades 1-5, Chaska Middle Schools (East and West) for grades 6-8, Pioneer Ridge Freshman Center for grade 9, Chaska High School for grades 10-12 and the brand new Chanhassen High School which serves grades 9-12. The Minnetonka School District 276 also serves a percentage of Chanhassen students that live in the northern region of the city. Schools in this district include Clear Springs Elementary School, Minnewashta Elementary School and Excelsior Elementary School, all of which serve grades K-5, Minnetonka Middle Schools (East and West) for grades 6-8, and Minnetonka Senior High School for grades 9-12. Public transportation is available in Chanhassen through SouthWest Transit. This public transportation system serves three cities in the area and it includes more than 60 buses on Monday through Friday each week. The service also offers ways to get to downtown Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota and other vital areas of the central region of the state. SouthWest Transit has won several awards through the years, including the Gold Award for Safety by the American Public Transportation Association and an award for the Minnesota Transit System of the Year. The Chanhassen Library, located at West 78th Street and Kerver Boulevard, is available to area residents to check out books, find information and use the library's resources. The Chanhassen Recreation Center is available to area residents and is located 2310 Coulter Boulevard near Bluff Creek Elementary School. During the spring, fall and winter, the center is open every day of the week but it closes on Sundays during the summer months.
